Admission Criteria

The heart of Lions Home for the Elders lies in providing a loving environment where the destitute, frail and aged sick are able to make the most out of life.

As a result, 90% of our residents are receiving subsidized nursing home care as they come from low-income families or are receiving public assistance from the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

While we would like to help as many elderly as possible, subsidized cases must first meet the Ministry of Health’s criteria and means test, and an assessment will be made for suitability to receive nursing home care based on the following criteria:

Must be a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident
Household income per capita of $1,300 or less
Applicants who are sick (especially the elderly sick) with medical conditions must be semi-ambulant, wheel-chair bound or bed bound
Applicant’s level of care must fall within the category 3 & 4 of the Ministry’s Resident Assessment Form, and require a high dependence level of nursing care
Applicant does not have close relatives or caregivers to provide support or care
Applicants with psychological and psychiatric illnesses must not have suicidal or violent tendencies

While the majority of our residents receive subsidy, there are still those who do not qualify for MOH’s criteria for subsidy. This makes up the remaining 10% of residents and, in such cases, the admission criteria is as follows:

Must be a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident
Applicant has medical condition that requires nursing care
Applicants with psychological and psychiatric illnesses must not have suicidal or violent tendencies
