24-hour Nursing and Clinical Care.
In its commitment to excellence, Lions Home has a full-time medical director and a team of part time medical specialists to address the medical and psychological needs of each resident. Our affiliation with the regional hospitals assists us to gain access to specialist fields such as oncology, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics as well as psychiatry.

Professionally trained, caring nurses and certified nursing assistants are focused on the ongoing needs of the residents and care for the body, mind and spirit of each individual. To ensure the highest level of support and functioning for each resident, nursing is provided 24-hours a day.

A resident doctor is employed by the Lions Home and he visits the Lions Home thrice weekly. In addition, geriatricians, psychogeriatricans and other medical expertise also visit the Lions Home regularly to carry out assessments, consultations and teachings.

Short-term and Long-term Rehabilitation
Recovering from a stroke or a fracture, a resident will need specialized short-term care focused on the restoration of functionality, often combining physical, occupational and speech therapies coupled with nursing and community care inputs. This programme helps residents to return to the community and resume an independent lifestyle.

Long-term rehabilitation is for residents who have a functional impairment, chronic disease or dementia. A combination of therapies is prescribed to raise their level of comfort, or even prevent further deterioration of their condition. These may include restorative physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and a rehabilitative nursing programme.

The physio and occupational therapists are on-site full-time at the Lions Home which comes complete with a clinically equipped gymnasium.

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
The overall goal of the rehabilitation therapy staff at the Lions Home is to strengthen bodies and reinstate a level of independence for each individual resident. Under the guidance of the physiotherapists and occupational therapists and in consultation with the medical staff and other clinical expertise, an individualized therapeutic programme designed to help the individual restore functionality and build confidence will be developed and the outcomes evaluated.

Our full-time physical therapy staff helps residents regain and maintain functioning. Their goals are to:

  • increase, restore or maintain range of motion, physical strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and endurance
  • promote independence with walking skills
  • increase overall fitness through exercise programmes
  • improve sensation, reduce pain and discomfort.

Physical therapy is a “hands-on” process. Much of the success we achieve comes about because our specialists work on a one-on-one basis to bring out each resident’s best capability.

Resident Social Life
Activities at the Lions Home provide a myriad of opportunities for residents to learn, grow, express themselves and have fun. Residents participate in programmes that stimulate intellect, help rebuild strength and raise the spirits. Programs include arts & crafts, cooking, concerts and monthly outings to local hawker centres, markets and shopping malls.

Social Work and Advocacy
Social and welfare workers at the Lions Home help residents adjust to living in a group setting. They maintain an ongoing relationship with both residents and their families, offering counselling, guidance, support and help with problems and concerns. Social and welfare workers are part of an interdisciplinary team that ensures residents’ rights and needs are addressed at all levels.

Resident advocacy is of prime importance at the Lions Home. Staff members concern themselves first with the level of care a resident requires, and then, as a team, develop a programme to help that individual.

Management and Care of Dementia
People with dementia are able to live at home. Those admitted to the Lions Home have more diverse and complex needs. The Lions Home professionally-trained staff increasingly has to meet the differing and changing needs of the residents and cope with often highly stressful situations which require understanding, tolerance, insight, compassion and commitment.

  • Pets Corner...
Pet therapy helps to create a more homelike environment and gives pleasure to the residents and their visitors. Studies have shown that pets can help satisfy the need for contact and offers constant interest and stimulus.

  • Yesteryear Room...
Reminiscence therapy is an effective intervention to enhance self-esteem, reduce isolation, and provide comfort and familiarity in the elderly. With the dementia residents, it encourages them to remember things and events from the past and thus stimulate communication and interaction with others.

  • Sensory Room...
Sensory stimulation is an effective option for managing behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. Literature has shown that multi-stimulation of the senses in an enriched environment is an acceptable therapeutic tool for treatment of dementia. The sensory room at the Lions Home helps the residents to relax and encourages communication between residents and caregivers and in return, increase nurse-resident relationship.
