Environmental Stewardship

Lions Home remains committed to minimising our environmental footprint through the responsible use of resources and sustainable operational practices across our facilities. Lions Home has also taken the step to eliminate the use of plastic disposable utensils during meal service unless there is an unforeseen circumstance such as a pandemic or virus outbreak within its premises.

Energy Management

During the reporting period, our Bishan Home achieved an approximately 15% reduction in electricity consumption over a five-month period, contributing to improved energy efficiency and lower utility costs. Electricity consumption at our Bedok Home remained relatively stable during the same period. We will continue to monitor energy usage across both facilities and identify practical opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.

Water Management

There were no significant developments in water management during the reporting period. Nevertheless, Lions Home continues to encourage the responsible use of water resources through good operational practices across our facilities.

Waste Management

Responsible waste management remains an integral part of our environmental efforts. Recycling bins for paper, plastics, glass and other recyclable materials are available across our Homes, with recyclable waste collected weekly to reduce waste sent to landfill. Clinical waste generated through healthcare operations continues to be managed in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, infection prevention standards and established waste disposal protocols.

Sustainable Procurement

There was no major sustainable procurement initiatives introduced during the reporting period. However, in our move towards digitisation, we reduced our usage of paper. Lions Home remains committed to incorporating sustainability considerations into our procurement processes wherever practicable.

Staff Well-being and Engagement

Throughout the year, a range of initiatives were introduced to promote staff well-being, engagement and workplace wellness.

These include:

• Mental Well-being Talks on Stress Management and Mindfulness conducted by the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) at both Bishan and Bedok Homes.
• Community Care Day 2025 celebrations, supported in part by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), recognising the dedication of our community care workforce.
• Staff Appreciation Nights held at both Homes to celebrate employees’ contributions and achievements.
• Nurses’ Day and year-end appreciation initiatives recognising the commitment of our nursing and multidisciplinary teams.

Board Development

To strengthen governance capabilities and keep abreast of evolving regulatory requirements, members of the Board participated in a series of governance and risk management programmes during the reporting period including:

• Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Review conducted by KPMG.
• Charity Governance Conference.
• Training on the new Code of Governance for Institutions of a Public Character (IPCs), Board Directors’ responsibilities, Conflict of Interest and the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

These programmes enable the Board to remain informed of emerging governance practices while continuing to provide effective stewardship of the organisation.

Community Impact

Beyond residential care, Lions Home continues to contribute to the wider community through health promotion, community partnerships, volunteer engagement and outreach initiatives that support active and healthy ageing. We remain committed to delivering compassionate, person-centred care while strengthening connections between residents, families, volunteers and the broader community.
